This Day in Bonaventure History

January 25, 2012

Last year’s historic run for the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team may never have happened. In fact, when the students went home after the first semester ended, many thought Bonaventure wouldn’t even go far in the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

What started “the run” were individual, hard fought games that gained momentum. One of the most memorable happened on this day.

After the month of December didn’t go as planned for the Bonnies, January proved to be much better. The team was 8-4 since its clunker against Arkansas St. at home, and the team was coming off a 95-51 win over Fordham.

The contest in Rhode Island ended up being one of the most important of the season. The Bonnies erased a 10-point halftime deficit and won 72-66 in overtime. The win put the Bonnies (11-7, 4-2) in first place of the A10.

Seniors Andrew Nicholson and Da’Quan Cook had huge games for the Bonnies, while a dunk from freshman Youssou Ndoye put the game away in overtime. It was the first win for the Bonnies in Rhode Island in ten years.
