This Day in Bonaventure History

February 1, 1859

When people think of the founding of St. Bonaventure University, one date comes to mind – 1858. However, the school was not opened to students until sometime later.

In 1856, the cornerstone of the first building was laid at Bonaventure, taking nearly three years to complete. Also, Fr. Pamfilo had to hire faculty and staff before classes could begin. So once everything came together, Bonaventure could begin accepting students.

It was on this day that students were first welcomed onto campus, beginning a more than 150 year history.
