ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. (March 11) — Tonight’s agenda for the Student Government Association’s biweekly meeting consisted of a fairly large item: its constitution.
St. Bonaventure University’s SGA members voted on constitutional changes at the beginning of the meeting. Afterward, Psi Chi & Psych Club, College Republicans, Mock Trial, Philosophy Club, History Club and Bonacoustics all presented updates on their respective semesters.
Some of the biggest proposed changes:
*The entire SGA executive board can make appointments of cabinet members and university committees
*Make the executive president the representative of SGA interests as its voting member on the faculty senate
*Establish an SGA membership committee that will update SGA on each club’s activities instead of having each individual club present once a semester, allowing the biweekly SGA meetings to focus more on administrative aspects
*Increase the number of required service hours for chartered clubs from 20 to 25. Strike the recently added clause that requires hours to be cumulative
The approved changes will be announced at the next meeting.
Other highlights:
*Potential speakers for next year include political commentator S.E. Cupp, said College Republicans. The group will also try and further voter registration efforts as the 2014 midterm elections are just around the corner
*Philosophy Club will host a shoe drive on April 29
*The Psych Lounge will be painted and slightly renovated
*Elections forms for all interested in running for class office are due by March 25. Elections begin on my.sbu.edu on March 31
*Recyclemania is still looking for designers for its upcoming trash fashion show. Cash prizes for the top three costumes will be awarded
*The junior class is selling “Kiss Me, I’m a Bonnie” t-shirts in the Reilly Center and Hickey Dining Hall this week
