The St. Bonaventure women’s basketball team will look to secure its fifth consecutive victory when they host James Madison tonight at 7 at the Reilly Center. The Bonnies make the quick turnaround after a notable 69-54 win over Georgetown on Saturday afternoon.
Senior forward Katie Healy missed Saturday’s game due to an injury and is considered day-to-day. Redshirt junior Gabby Richmond earned the start in place of Healy and posted a season-best 17 points in 28 minutes of play.
Last year, James Madison produced an overall record of 29-4, earning them a spot in the NCAA tournament before falling to Ohio State in the first round. The Dukes return two starters and seven total letterwinners from last season’s CAA championship team. JMU averages over 75 points per game, with three players averaging double-figure scoring. Redshirt senior Jazmon Gwathmey posts 17.8 points per game, including a 33-point performance against Liberty on Nov. 23, when she went 3-for-4 from long range.
This is the second meeting between the two schools, the first coming last year season, when the Dukes handed Bonaventure a 76-43 loss on the road. The brown and white were held to just 23.6 percent (13-of-55) shooting and were outrebounded 53-27. This year, the Bonnies are sharing the ball well, averaging 18 assists per game over the last four contests.
