St. Bonaventure women’s basketball junior Mckenna Maycock is The Intrepid’s 2017 Female Athlete of the Year.
The award was voted on by Intrepid sports staffers and contributors as well as St. Bonaventure athletic director Tim Kenney, who received a guest vote. Voters were able to choose any Division I athlete who competed for Bonaventure in the 2017 calendar year. Others receiving votes were lacrosse senior Morgan Conroy, lacrosse graduate Scarlet Jaworski, freshman swimmer Gerle Kerecsen, freshman swimmer Lina Kutsko, soccer sophomore Lauren Malcolm and basketball senior Mariah Ruff.
Maycock had a breakout 2017, recording 258 points, 147 rebounds and 27 steals in 25 games in the calendar year. After setting two career scoring highs in the last full week of November, the Randolph, N.Y. native took the team lead in scoring and rebounding, a mark she would hold until she was injured on Dec. 15 against Buffalo.
The basketball court isn’t the only place Maycock dominates; she was named to both the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team and CoSIDA Academic All-District Team after the 2016-17 season.
