Spiders Take Down Bonnies 79-57

Richmond Spiders (11-15) duo of Micaela Parson and Alex Parson combined for 38 points to lead the Spiders to a 79-57 victory over the St. Bonaventure Bonnies (7-19).

Senior Mariah Ruff had her second career double-double. She had 11 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds. She was one of the three Bonnies to score in double figures.

Freshman Emily Calabrese started the game fast, scored four of the team’s first six points and the game was tied up early. Richmond then went on a 7-2 run to take the lead 13-8. The Bonnies responded with an 8-0 run of their own and took the lead back 16-13.

Micaela hits a buzzer beater at the end of the first to give Richmond an 18-16 lead. Richmond picked up where they left off with a 13-2 run to extend their lead to 26-18 with eight minutes left in the second quarter.

It went from bad to worse for the Bonnies as Richmond continued to make runs after the Bonnies would crawl back in it. Richmond ended the quarter on an 18-6 run and they led 44-28. Micaela had 17 of her 24 points in the first half. Alex had 10 of her 14 points at halftime. Calabrese scored 10 of her team-high 12 points in the first half including a buzzer beater at the end of the second quarter.

The Bonnies showed some fight in the second half bringing the lead down to 12 after junior Mckenna Maycock hit a three. Maycock scored 10 points seven rebounds. The Spiders responded with an 11-2 run to give the Richmond a 61-40 lead going into the fourth quarter.

The key to the game was the turnover battle. The Bonnies had 25 turnovers and Richmond scored 33 points off those turnovers. Richmond only had 11 turnovers and the Bonnies scored seven points off those turnovers.

The lack of three-point shooting was part of the Bonnies downfall. They only shot 18% from three while Richmond shot 37%.

Ruff made history again by surpassing 400 assists, and she moved into fourth place in school history in assists with 407.

The Bonnies look to bounce back on Sunday when they travel to play George Mason at 2 p.m.
